Stop Helping Spammers
02/18/2008
I get endless jokes in my inbox like most of you. Some of them funny and many obnoxious. BUT I have noticed that most of these "forwarded" jokes and emails include a HUGE list of all the people that ever received the email. When you forward an email it includes who it came from, the original subject heading, etc. TAKE THE TIME when you forward to highlight and delete all of this personal and private information!!  Spammers love this and gain millions of addresses by initiating these jokes and free offers and gossip only to secretly receive a copy of the forwards to collect your addresses. Forwarding jokes is fine, i do it all the time. But take a moment to help stop Spammers. In a world of identity theft we all have to do our part. Outlook and Outlook Express both include the option to turn off this effect. Contact the ByteMaster for a Maintenance call and we can correct that for you! TIP: check out this spam program for outlook or outlook express: CA Anti-Spam for what i consider to be almost 100% perfect spam accuracy.

What Games are your Kids Playing!?!?
02/18/2008
Here's a great site for parents to figure out what all the hubub is about when it comes to the games their kids are playing in their bedrooms! This site will help even the least gamer-literate parent find out about the content of the game as opposed to "how cool it is!". The site promises friendly, unbiased information that is easily searched. There is even a guide of questions to get you to the information you are interested in.

Finding the right Technician!!
02/18/2008
Someone asked me today what the difference was between techs and 'The Nerd Squad's. It was actual a very good question and without a doubt valuable information that could lead to higher repair costs or possible damage or loss of your data!

I know you're not supposed to 'dog' your competition, but as any real techs will tell you, large companies cannot provide you with experienced 'nerds'. I just caught this last Friday nite (well last night on TIVO):  KCRA's Call 3 Investigated Circuit City, Best Buy, and Staples by asking them to repair a simple problem with their laptop...GUESS HOW THEY DID?  Read Article Here:  http://www.kcra.com/news/14644351/detail.html

Again, my customers will tell you that there is a world of difference when it comes to experience, honest AND integrity. The owner of a company has far more on the line than an hourly employee. You never know who you're getting.

Case in point, Best Buy unfortunately hired the wrong employee. http://cbs2.com/topstories/local_story_101211540.html .

Feeling Generous?
02/19/2008
Got stuf around the house you no longer want? Feeling like helping someone out? This site is like an Ebay or Craigslist but you give your item away for free. Freecycle.org lets you do just that. The site breaks you down to your local area and then you need to join their Yahoo Group. It is like signing onto a newsletter or in this case an active group of people that post messages regarding a specific subject. Worth taking that extra step to maybe give a college student that much needed Espresso machine crowding your counter!

A New English
02/19/2008
I always notice misspellings in advertising and wonder why a company would spend so much without running Microsoft Word Spellcheck at least!!! When my 16 year old son showed me this site I found it hilarious and also quite mesmerizing...   Engrish.com

Be a Coupon "Clicker"
03/19/2008
Recently, I purchased some software online. I noticed a little box during the checkout phase that prompted me for a Discount or Coupon Code. I wondered where people were getting these codes so I "Googled" the term Discount Coupon Code as well as the name of the product I wanted to purchase. Low and behold there are dozens of sites that offer these codes. You merely need to copy and paste them into your order form and VOILA!  Less for more. Not all the codes work, but isn't it worth a few extra keystrokes to save 20% on that new "Remote Control Cozy" you've  been eyeing!!??
